"Grow old with me; the best is yet to be!" R. Browning
How fortunate I am to be turning sixty years old. Over the years, I have experienced amazing moments, moments that have challenged me, and the everyday mundane moments we call life. As the fifth of seven children, I was blessed to have six siblings with whom I could share my life. Our parents taught us that love conquers all and is the greatest gift a person can give and receive. Throughout our lives, many joined our family in celebrating our joyous occasions. During the difficult times, my mother's favourite and most memorable saying was, "What is allotted cannot be blotted." She wanted us to believe that these challenges did not define us and think that our destiny was a bright future. We all now share this quote in support of our children.
My destiny was to meet my wonderful life partner in university. By marrying Raymond, I gained a wonderful in-law family who have shown us the never-ending love and beauty of the Acadian culture. Later, we would welcome our most cherished blessing, our son. Sebastien and his four-pawed siblings, Lockey, Brooklyn, and now Tavis, gave and continue to provide us with treasured moments of family.
For the past sixty years, I was gifted the love and support of many friends and extended family, who became friends. They cheer me on in my hard times and celebrate with me in my happy times. My friends connect me to the past, share the present, and join me to envision a bright future.
Tomorrow begins a new day and a new decade for me. Before I conclude this day, I want to thank everyone who wished me a happy birthday. Your calls, texts, visits, and posts mean so much. I want everyone to grow old with me; I promise the best is yet to be.
