Hope Belongs on Every Library Shelf

When I wrote RISE: Living Life Over Cancer, I wasn’t focused on bestseller lists or sales. My main hope was to make the book available to everyone, no matter their financial situation.

As a lifelong educator, I’ve always believed that everyone should have access to knowledge. That belief stayed with me after I retired and inspired me to write RISE.

Having my book included in Nova Scotia’s Same Page Public Library Network is one of the most meaningful moments in my writing journey. Readers can find RISE and request it at any of the province’s eight regional library branches.

Nova Scotia has a high rate of cancer, and many people and families also face financial stress. A cancer diagnosis brings emotional, physical, and financial challenges. Along the way, people see many books, products, supplements, programs, and online promises that claim amazing results. Many cost a lot, and some make promises about curing cancer that just aren’t realistic.

My hope has always been something else.

I wanted to create an honest, practical, and hopeful resource that helps people live fully even when things are uncertain. RISE isn’t about miracle cures. It’s about choosing hope, taking care of yourself, building resilience, and finding ways to live a rich and meaningful life, even after a diagnosis changes everything.

It means so much to me that anyone can walk into a local library or search the Same Page catalogue and borrow RISE for free. Hope should never depend on whether someone can afford to buy a book.
