The Ultimate Gift: Celebrating Christmas with Positive Scan Results

Updated: Aug 25

"Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth, faithfulness the best relationship." Budda

On the 19th day of the countdown to Christmas, I received the best gift of all: positive bone and CT scans. As mentioned in an earlier blog, living with cancer requires regular checkups to see if medications are working and if there is progression to other areas of the body. Last week, I had my first 3.5-month follow-up bone and CT scans. Today, I was scheduled to see my oncologist at the provincial cancer clinic in Halifax to review the results.

Many family and friends asked me what I thought the outcome would be. I noted if my body were my indicator, I would get positive results. However, cancer can be tricky, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that my cancer spread to my liver and lungs. I know that living life with cancer is a journey and not a sprint, and I was mentally prepared for both situations.

Today, I received the news that I had no progress in other areas of my body. Both scans showcased healing in all bones affected by cancer, which is not surprising considering I feel healthy and strong. My oncologist was very pleased with my results and noted that I was in a sweet spot on medications that worked together for me. He also stated that my positive attitude, healthy lifestyle, and perseverance supported me.

My two love languages are service and giving. Today, I felt the love of hearing this news. I will celebrate this news with my family and friends who have been and continue to be my great cheerleaders. I thank all of you who follow me on my website, Facebook page and Facebook for your support and words of encouragement. As I move into the new year, I will celebrate it with good health, contentment in living life over cancer, and faithfulness in myself, my family, my cancer team, and my Deity.

Betty Jean, I was beyond relieved to read this update. I'm catching up all of this new news, but if there are two words that stood out it was these two: service and giving. They go hand in hand, and we can all take a page out of that chapter and apply it in so many practical ways and share it via our actions. Good things shall follow. Big hugs from your cousin, Raymond. xo 🤗
