Canada Day Wisdom from Tavis and the Mat

This morning, we gathered by the lake for Canada Day yoga, but I forgot to take a group photo. In the moment, I missed capturing the wonderful group who arrived with open hearts, wearing red and white, ready to move, breathe, and start the day with purpose.
But I did manage to get a photo of Tavis.
Tavis stood proudly on the yoga mat, wearing his Canada Day bandana and enjoying the sunshine, the lake breeze, and the simple joy of being present. He did not need a perfect pose or to worry about the camera. He was not thinking about what was next. He was just in the moment.
Maybe that is one of the best lessons Canada Day can teach us.
To pause.
To breathe.
To notice the beauty around us.
To feel grateful for the place we call home, and to make room for reflection, learning, and compassion.
For me, Canada Day is not just about celebration. It is also about appreciation—appreciation for this beautiful country, the lakes and trees around us, the freedoms we sometimes take for granted, and the communities that support us. It is a day to remember that loving our country also means being honest, humble, and committed to kindness, inclusion, and reconciliation.
This morning’s yoga practice reminded me that things do not have to be perfect to be meaningful. The mat is a place to come back to ourselves. Our breath anchors us. Our bodies remind us that we are here, alive, and able to start again.
And then there is Tavis, quietly sharing his own wisdom.
Show up as you are.
Enjoy the sunshine.
Stand proudly in your joy.
Take in the view.
Trust the moment.
Do not miss the simple gifts.
I am grateful for Tavis, who once again reminded me that living well is often found in the simplest moments.
Happy Canada Day from our lakeside mat to yours.
May we continue to rise, breathe, learn, love, and live fully. ❤️🇨🇦
