Be filled with Wonder. Be touched by Peace. Believe in the Miracle!
On this 23rd day of the Christmas countdown, we celebrated with our South Shore tradition with lobsters! This Christmas is very special to us. Five months ago, our dreams of teaching abroad were replaced by a diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer. When I heard that the possibility existed to have a clear mammogram and still have breast cancer reoccur in my bones or elsewhere, I consulted Dr. Google. This is not a good place to build confidence and allay fears.
We initially faced the assumption that I only had a few years left to live. Later, with the support of my doctor and my oncologist, we were able to learn that with the development of new drugs, my cancer was akin to a chronic disease diagnosis. I will have to take medication for the rest of my life, but in return, I will enjoy my final years with my best friend, my husband, my family, and my friends.
That’s why we’re celebrating miracles with family and friends this Christmas. Many of us who live on Nova Scotia's South Shore celebrate with lobster. We have lobster on December 23rd, and then we use our lobster to make seafood chowder for Christmas Eve. We also make a fan favourite: lobster dip for holiday celebrations. Celebrate the miracle with us in creating one of my favourite dips. Visit your local lobster fishermen, buy lobster at your local supermarket, or buy frozen cans. We know you'll love this tradition. Ahoy!
